Telling Your Story
You’ve had a lifetime of extraordinary experiences, relationships, and lessons, and you’ve probably thought about writing down your story. But perhaps you’re not sure where to start?
Consider working with a consultant who can help you to get the words on the pages in a compelling, elegant, and neatly-organized way. If you’re thinking about writing your memoirs, or if you’re looking for an experienced author to write the story of your family, business, or organization, please give me a call. My goal is to help people tell their life stories and share them with their friends, family, clients, and neighbors.
Over a decade ago, I realized that there was a narrow window of opportunity left to talk to members of the World War II generation, and I wanted to understand what people from my hometown did in that war. So I began collecting interviews and oral histories with veterans, relatives of men who were killed, and Japanese-Americans who were interned in the local fairgrounds. That resulted in over 120 interviews and a series of monthly articles in the local newspaper. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I gained a new life mission: to preserve people’s stories. Those stories of the war years were recently published in a book from History Press.
Over the years, I've helped various outside authors with their work. I assisted an author to write a biography of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. A former presidential advisor and diplomat enlisted me to help him with research and editing for a book about the vocation of public service. And I pieced together articles and fragments left behind by a former White House official who had passed away a few years earlier and whose widow had asked me to assemble the available materials into a book.
In recent years, I have spent a lot of my time working on local history and political history projects. This work has led me to take on additional individual, corporate, and nonprofit clients who want help telling their life stories and sharing them with friends, family, clients, and neighbors.
